The choice of what tool a plastic surgeon uses to perform a necklift may affect the amount of swelling during neck lift recovery. In the article 'Comparison of Histological Effects of LigaSure and Bipolar Cautery on the Submandibular Gland in a Rat Model' researchers tested two energy devices used in submandibular gland surgery and found that bipolar electrocautery may cause higher levels of inflammation, edema, hemorrhage, and necrosis.
